AUGUSTA – State Rep. Meredith Strang Burgess has been assigned to the Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services for the 124th Legislature, which puts her in a position to help shape policy on health care.

"I am honored to be joining this important committee," said Rep. Meredith Strang Burgess (R-Cumberland). "This committee will be dealing head-on with some of the more important issues to Maine's most vulnerable citizens over the coming months. We will also be charged with making some very difficult funding decisions."

The committee also has jurisdiction over MaineCare (Medicaid), public health and disease control, prescription drugs, health care facilities, the health care workforce, social and rehabilitation services, substance abuse, mental health, public assistance, nursing facilities, residential care, and long-term care for the elderly.
