ANNOUNCES BUSINESS HALL OF FAME LAUREATS

(Portland, ME, April 5, 2006) Junior Achievement of Maine Announces Maine Business Hall of Fame Laureates for 2006. Included in the roster is Meredith Strang Burgess, CEO of Burgess Advertising, William L. Caron, Jr., CEO, MaineHealth, and Peter G. Vigue, President & CEO, Cianbro Corporation.

"The JA program is dedicated to educating and inspiring young people to value free enterprise and economics and we are excited to be honoring these highly deserving business people who serve as great role models for the kids," said JA president Melissa Rector Bourque.

The criteria for being selected is based on whether the business person:

  • Has made a significant, enduring contribution to Maine's economy and quality of life;
  • Has a continuity of achievement, rather than being noted for one particular accomplishment;
  • Has demonstrated leadership in business, and is recognized by his or her company or profession to have made a significant contribution;
  • Has a record of community service and/or philanthropic activities, and has been a leader in civic and community affairs; and,
  • Adheres to the highest moral and ethical standards, and represents a role model for youth.

  • Laureates were chosen by the following selection committee members: Mike Stone - TD Banknorth, Ellie Baker - Baker Newman & Noyes Associates, Horace Horton - Drummond & Drummond, Michael McNamara - TD Banknorth (retired), Betty Olson - Maine Bank & Trust, David Warren - Verrill Dana, and Timothy J. Bryant - Preti, Flaherty. The induction dinner will take place on Tuesday, May 9 at the Marriott in South Portland. Sponsorships and tickets can be purchased by calling 591-9005.
